Why We’re Leaving

Godaddy has been the biggest, and supposedly best, in domain registrations for a long time. Because of that, they were the ones I went with when I registered my first domain back in the early 90’s. Since then, I’ve used them to register over 30 domains, sell one for $1500, and transfer over a dozen domains to-and-from my client’s own domain registration accounts. Consistently throughout, two things nagged at me like an itch in the small of my back, that I couldn’t reach:

1. The horrible design. Godaddy tries to hide an overwhelming, super-busy, interface behind bright colors and glossy graphics. But the fact is, it doesn’t work. Godaddy is difficult to use, plain and simple. Their site philosophy seems to be “overwhelm the user and maybe they’ll accidentally buy something they don’t want.” (continue reading…)

Well, as you might have noticed, we got so busy designing other people’s websites that our last site redesign never got finished. When we recently started again, we decided to make a few more changes. We think these changes make the site look really cool. The great thing is, that its not much of a change in the functionality of our website. Its still the same underneath the new graphics and interface.

We hope you like it. Let us know. We’ve got a lot of projects in the pipeline, so forgive us if updates are slow (we have to take care of current customers, first).

FiddlerStudios is in the process of switching to a new server. Our old host had all our sites offline, once again. This was the last straw, so I switched web hosts.

While setting things up on the new server, I got creative and decided to put WordPress (the content management system we use) in a separate folder to keep things tidier. It all worked out in the end, except the path to all the images is relative, so all those that I put into the content area of the pages, now wont display. So this site might be semi out of commission for the next few days until I get all those updated.

Okay, our new site is officially functioning! Everything is not in place yet, so you’ll notice that our old film site is not functioning anymore, since we have that part mostly completed. However, productions.fiddlerstudios.com is still available as the Services section of our website is not functioning yet.

We’re very pleased with the shape the site is taking. You’ll find its much easier to use than our old site, as well as has better, cooler stuff. We also hope to add some video content that was either previously in the works, or simply never got added to the old site, in anticipation of our new site.

We’re also happy to announce the addition of web design and hosting to our list of available services. Alas, that page is not up and functioning… yet. More coming soon….
